We share a common purpose with professionals who work with people struggling with compulsive or addictive sexual behaviors: to help these individuals stop their unhealthy sexual behaviors and face life in a sexually sober manner. Whatever label you prefer – problematic, compulsive or addictive – they are suffering. If you have patients or clients who cannot control their sexual behavior, SAA can provide ongoing support for them which complements the professional assistance you provide. Sex Addicts Anonymous® is a twelve-step recovery program and has but one primary purpose – to carry its message of recovery to anyone who suffers from sexual addiction. SAA was founded in 1977 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and now offers over 2000 meetings in many countries.
The goal in SAA is not to stop all sexual activity, but to abstain from behaviors that are addictive or harmful. The fellowship does not dictate to its members what is and isn’t addictive sexual behavior. Each member defines which sexual behaviors are healthy and which are addictive for themselves. To be sexually sober means that a member no longer engages in their addictive behaviors.
Membership is open to anyone with a desire to stop their addictive sexual behavior. There is no other requirement. Our fellowship is open to all genders, regardless of race, religion, ethnic background, marital status, or occupation. We welcome members of any sexual identity or orientation.
